A lot of surprises are in store at Suluman Chimbetu’s album launch at Maestro Restaurant in Highlands tomorrow following revelations that the event will be a double album launch with upcoming female jazz musician Tatenda Tadzingirwa-Mupindu. The diva will be unveiling her debut “Zvirimudundundu”. Ironically, both Sulu and Tatenda recorded their albums at Vialy Studios, and were produced by the same producer, Munyaradzi Viya.

Tatenda said she was honoured to launch her album alongside Sulu whom she described as a humble and dedicated artiste.

“Sulu came up with the idea of the double launch after having listened to my music in the studio and he was impressed. We are looking forward to thrill people at the launch,” she said.

“Zvirimudundundu” is a six-track offering laden with gems like “African Girl”, “Samatenga”, “Wangu”, Shungu Dzangu”, “Pangu Pangu” as well as the title track “Zvirimudundundu”.

In “African Girl”, which is a fusion of jiti and contemporary beats, the singer expresses pride in her identity as an African woman.

She goes the gospel way in the track “Samatenga” in which she extols the virtues of investing faith in God, while “Wangu” is a love track likely to steal the hearts of lovebirds and send them swaying and serenading.

Born on August 28, 1990 in Harare, Tatenda started her professional music career attending music lessons at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton specialising in acoustic lessons which were imparted to her by the late Sam Mtukudzi. In 2012, she took part in Star Brite and sang a song by one of the judges, Cindy Munyavi.

The same year, Sanii Makhalima identified her talent and took her on board before she moved to South Africa in pursuit of other professional avenues.

“I then decided to record a single ‘Simudza Musoro’ which was recorded by DJ Anusa which is currently being played on Power FM. I just want to grow big and lift Zimbabwe’s flag high through music,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sulu’s latest album “Gunship” is expected to cause a big stir especially with the tracks “Mr Benson”, “Nyuchi Moto (Fire Guard)”, “Hondo”, “Usandisiye Pamunoronga” and “Idah Nhoro”, among others.
