Dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu turns 34 today and has lined up several activities to celebrate the event with his fans. Tonight he celebrates the birthday at La Rouge Lounge in Westgate before moving to Spillway Pub and Restaurant in the vicinity of Lake Chivero tomorrow.His publicist Joe Nyamungoma said they have decided to celebrate the birthday with fans and salute them for their support over the years.

“We have for the past years included other musicians at the celebrations but this time we are doing it alone. We are trying to do it in different way and we have lined up shows to celebrate with our fans. It is a special weekend for us,” he said.

He said their fans will have something to smile about as he will be sampling songs from his coming album.

“Sulu is turning 34 on Friday (today) and the celebrations come when he is preparing his new album. We have a new song that we will play for the fans as a birthday special.”

Nyamungoma said they also have some new stage acts that will be unveiled at the shows.

“He (Sulu) and the band are busy preparing new stuff, so we are inviting our fans to come in their numbers and have fun with their entertainer.”

Spillway Pub and Restaurant manager Dzikama Rufu said they are delighted to host Sulu for his birthday celebrations.

“Saturday (tomorrow) will be a big day for us. We have a good working relationship with Sulu and he has performed at the pub several times. It is a great honour to host him as he celebrates his 34th birthday with fans. He has been consistent in music and he will spend the weekend celebrating in a special way,” said Rufu.

“His shows at Spillway Pub and Restaurant have been successful and we know the celebrations will go a long way in cementing our relationship and also saluting his fans and our patrons for their support.”

Sulu was born on May 27 1982 in Saruwe, Chegutu and being a son of a music legend, Simon, his passion for music started at a tender age.

He started singing in a school choir at Wicklow Primary School (now Simon Chimbetu Primary) while he was in Grade 4.

Since taking over the reins after the death of his father, he has five albums under his belt namely “NdomusiyaNani”, “Reverse Deal”, “Non Stop”, “Syllabus” and “Gunship”.
