As the new year kicks in, it is time to bid farewell to Star FM’s Breakfast Club hosts – Comfort Mbofana and Bongai Zamchya – after two and half years of presenting the early morning show from 6am to 9am on weekdays.

The seasoned broadcasters, who once worked for ZBC’s SFM radio, have called it a day to pursue other businesses.

Yesterday the duo hosted their last edition of the hugely popular Breakfast Club and took time to bid farewell to their legion of fans with lots of giveaways. Some of the lucky fans won cash prizes of up to $100 by just stating their favourite Breakfast Club memory on the station’s Facebook page.

The Breakfast Club was like the nerve centre of Star FM as it set the tone for the day, giving listeners an enjoyable on-the-spot tit bits and sound-bites spiced up by Mbofana’s unmistakable voice complemented by Zamchya’s deep voice.

No doubt the two brought a lively feel to the club and commanded respect of artistes and the confidence of the business community.

Some of the highlights of the show include “Word of Today” presented by Zamchya more popularly known as Zam, “Hate It or Rate It”, “Business Beat” and the “Breakfast Club Sessions” where guest musicians performed live in the studio on Thursdays.

Both Mbofs and Zam will be ably replaced by Nicola “Nikki” Ndoro and Napoleon “Napster” Nyanhi on Breakfast Club.

Contacted for comment Mbofana said he was still with the Star FM family.

“Am concerntrating on my managerial role in programming. Am staying within the Star FM family. I felt it was time to give younger presenters the opportunities that we have experienced.”

Zam had this to say: “It has been a privilege and an honour to work with an absolutely fantastic team. I’m confident that Nikki and Napster will do a great job and bring their own creativity to the best Breakfast show in the country.

“It’s not goodbye, it’s more like hear me later! I will be doing stuff on Star FM especially on ‘Business Beat’,” Zam said.

He, however, scoffed at claims that he was joining rival radio stations.

By yesterday, Breakfast Club fans went into overdrive bidding farewell to the duo on the station’s official Facebook page.

Farai Michael Moyo wrote: “I loved the word of the day (the voice . . . my girlfriend loved the voice, hokoyo Mbofs lol) and rate it or hate it (although most of the Zim tracks you played were either sub-standard or Ice-Prince wanna-be’s . . . emphasis on most lol) . . . id chose to be la(sic)”.

Chiedza Makomva wrote: “Hozaaaaaaaa suuuuumeer! You two really brought the sunshine. You’ll be missed terribly.”

“Aah will miss rraattee it or hhaattee it #inmbofsvoice <https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/inmbofsvoice>,” said Monica Thembinkosi Dzenga.

Tino Sidney Ziyambi said:” It won’t be the same.”

Tonde Small Mtizira said: “I wonder who will fill in the shoes of Mr Mbofs, a natural broadcaster . . . not to take anything away from the others but the Mbof’s touch was just magic . . . please don’t leave.”

Walter Tichaona wrote: “ A lot of respect for these two men!”

The duo also took their fans down memory lane with a picture montage of some of their memorable guests. From Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana, to Rozalla Miller, Olympic Gold Medal Winner Kirsty Coventry and talk show host Rebecca Chisamba to Vault founder Jackie Mgido, Makosi Musambasi, Hugh Masekela, Sulumani Chimbetu and the late Chiwoniso among others.
