Mufakose-based outfit Singing Talent Amalgamated will be on the spotlight during a belated commemoration of the International Day of the African Child to be held at Chiedza Child Care Centre next Friday.
The group will officially launch a song “Nyarara”, in honour of vulnerable children in the society.
“The single “Nyarara” is not just a song bemoaning negative sides of the life of an African child but it has a positive message of hope and gives motive for a child in whatever situation with assurance that things would be alright,” said one of the group members.

Organised in partnership with Edzai Isu Theatre Arts Project, Let Them Trust and Chiedza Childcare Centre, the event will be complemented with a talent show aimed at showcasing the artistic or creative talent of children at the centre.

“The event will afford children at Chiedza Childcare Centre an opportunity to showcase their talent, sharing the stage with professionals who will be providing entertainment for the children and invited guests thus offering an interactive platform for the children, staff of the centre and guests,” said Edzai Isu representative Tafadzwa Muzondo.

The event will be running under the theme, “A child friendly, quality, free and compulsory education for all children in Africa”.
“Nyarara is a word of comfort to the African Child and we thought what better day to launch this single than the belated celebrations of Day of the African Child at an orphanage or vulnerable children’s home particularly Chiedza Child Care Centre considering the sterling work they are doing,” he said.

He said their efforts were also a way of mobilising support for the children in the form of stationery and books and hampers.
All invited guests are required to bring a text books, exercise books and pens among other donations.

International Day of the African Child (16 June) was first established by the OAU in 1991 in honour of those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 where 10 000 black school children marched in a column more than half a mile long protesting the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language resulting in hundreds of young students being shot.
