have been outstanding during the just-ended Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
League champions Dynamos are set to provide the bulk of the finalists with players such as Washington Arubi, Roderick Mutuma, Thomas Magorimbo, Murape Murape, Denver Mukamba, Guthrie Zhokinyi and George Magariro all having contributed immensely to the success of the team this season.

Warriors’ goalkeeper Arubi has been a safe pair of hands and has kept 17 clean sheets in the 28 matches that he featured for the Harare giants while the ageless Murape has been inspirational, especially when chips were down, in their great comeback story.
FC Platinum, who nearly won their first championship in their debut season, had an array of stars and goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube was outstanding between the posts.

However, their forward Charles Sibanda, who won the top prize last season, will not be considered because of disciplinary issues.
Sibanda was arrested and paid an admission of guilt fine in an assault case involving Chicken Inn coach Adam Ndlovu.
The selection criteria states that any player who was summoned/charged and found guilty by his club, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Zifa or any court of law for any kind of offence shall not be eligible for selection.

Veteran midfielder Menard Mupera deserves credit for the way he played all season.
Bulawayo giants Highlanders have been disappointing this season but such players as Rahman Kutsanzira and Louis Matawu are among those who acquitted themselves well during the year.

Dethroned champions Motor Action could have failed to defend their title but they could contribute at least two players.
Golkeeper Marlon Jani, defenders Themba Ndlovu, Godfrey Moyo and Ocean Mushure have been consistent throughout the season.
Midfielder Allen Gahadzikwa also did well.

Other players like Black Mambas’ Abbas Amidu, Hwange’s Gilbert Zulu, Cliff Sekete (Gunners), David Rediyoni, Tapiwa Kumbuyani (CAPS United) and Canaan Nkomo (Chicken Inn) also had good outings.
Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa, who helped the Glamour Boys to their 18th league championship in the last 11 games in charge, makes the cut since minimum participation for candidates is 10 games.

Hwange’s Tenant Chilumba and Gunners’ Moses Chunga are also top contenders.
Premier Soccer League chief executive Kenny Ndebele this week announced changes to the selection criteria.
“The panel will select 11 footballers of the year. The Footballer of the Year and two runners-up will be unveiled at a banquet to be held on Friday, February 9, 2012.

“The most promising Castle Lager Player of the Year shall be selected from the list of Under-20 players registered with Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
“The panel consists of sports writers, Castle Lager Premier Soccer League football coaches, representatives of the Football Union of Zimbabwe and The Zimbabwe

Soccer Referees Association. The selection panel will be assisted by football experts, consisting mainly of Sports Editors,” said Ndebele.
Footballers Association of Zimbabwe president Desmond Maringwa and secretary-general Paul Gundani, referees’ Ngoni Boyd and Batsirai Muchenje are part of the panel, to be chaired by BBC’s Steve Vickers.
