LONDON. — Manchester United’s hopes of keeping David De Gea have dealt a major blow after Iker Casillas told Real Madrid to sign the goalkeeper.

De Gea has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and has been heavily linked with a move to Real.

The 10 time European champions see the 24-year-old as the long-term successor to Casillas.

Reports in Spain earlier this year had suggested that De Gea would only move to the Bernabeu if club legend Casillas left in the summer.

Casillas however, feels they could both thrive at the club and accepts he may be replaced as Real’s No.1. And he revealed he had advised club president Florentino Perez to sign the former Atletico Madrid star. — The Daily Star.
