The Office of the President and Cabinet yesterday conveyed its condolences to the Mnkandla family following the death of Pensions Master, Mr Sylvester Jack Mnkandla on Wednesday in Harare.

“The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet on behalf of His Excellency the President and indeed, of the whole of Government, wishes to convey heartfelt condolences to Mrs Mnkandla and the rest of the family, following the sad death of Mr Sylvester Jack Mnkandla, the Pensions Master on 20th September 2017 after an illness,” said Dr Misheck Sibanda.

He described Mr Mnkandla as a dedicated civil servant, whose 43-year span of service saw him rising to the helm of the Department of Pensions.

“He presided over the transformation of the department which was traditionally known for shoddy service, poor record keeping and limited accessibility to the citizenry,” said Dr Sibanda.

“Through his able and exemplary leadership, Mr Mnkandla succeeded in decentralising the department, thereby bringing its service closer to the citizens and revamping its operations through inculcating the crown values of integrity, responsiveness and efficiency.”

Dr Sibanda said the high leadership capabilities had earned him respect of those closely associated with him like his principals, colleagues and subordinates.

“In him the nation has lost a cadre who was indeed an embodiment of professionalism, superlative commitment to duty and integrity.

“To Mrs Mnkandla and the whole family, while you mourn his sad and untimely departure, may you draw comfort from the fact that your pain is not yours alone, but is shared by Government as a whole,” said Dr Sibanda.

Mr Mnkandla was aged 65.

He rose to become Director of Pensions in 2005.
