MASHONALAND West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Webster Shamu has read the riot act to civil servants in the province, saying they should shape up and spearhead development in line with President Mugabe’s 10-Point Plan.

Cde Shamu said civil servants should take the 10-Point Plan as their Bible or hymn book for development in the province.

“We have the Rapid Results Initiative and we have 100 days to meet set targets,” he said. “We want results. We have looked at all the sectors of the economy in Mashonaland West province from agriculture to tourism.

“We have 10 clusters all anchored on the 10-Point Plan and I make that my Bible.”

This comes as Government has identified Mashonaland West province as a pilot branding project where key cultural and economic elements are accentuated to attract local and international investment.

The branding process will provide a template for other provinces.

Government has given the province up to November 30 to come up with a recognisable brand.

The is part of Government’s Rapid Results Initiative which gives identified targets a 100-day delivery period to speed up attainment of goals.

Cde Shamu said Government officials should work closely with the ruling party — Zanu-PF — to synchronise their activities with the party manifesto.

He said this during a tour of Best Fruits Processors on Thursday.

“We have agreed with colleagues within the office of the Resident Minister and also local government which heads government in the province that we are not going to carry any garbage that is useless,” said Cde Shamu.

“Any officer who does not deliver must look for another role. This is not going to be your place. We will not tolerate the attitudes that this is Government business, you know lethargic, lackadaisical approach to business will not be entertained.”

Cde Shamu said people should stick to time as the basis for success.

He said district administrators were no longer like the colonial figureheads that drew respect for their positions, but should be agents of development in their districts.

Cde Shamu advocated for the printing and displaying of the 10-Point Plan at all Government buildings so that it is appreciated by everyone in the province.

He said there was an opportunity in the province to implement Points 1 and 2 of the 10-Point Plan which looks at revitalising agriculture and the agro-processing value chain.

It also looks at advancing beneficiation and value addition to agriculture and the mining resource endowment.

Best Fruit Processors is supporting farmers in communities such as Chegutu, Mhondoro-Ngezi and Sanyati to grow tomatoes which they later buy.

They also buy guavas which are processed into juice for the local and international market.
