Seven Beitbridge murder suspects remanded in custody

Knowledge Sibanda (25), Nqobizitha Moyo (20), both from Makakavhule village in Beitbridge district, Wedzerai Mugwagwa (32) of Gutu in Masvingo, Lawyer Mapula (44) Thabo Mutshweni (32) of Pretoria (South Africa), Mpho Ncube (30) from Musina and Jeffrey Mosela of Polokwane were not asked to plead to kidnapping, assault and murder charges when they appeared before Beitbridge magistrate, Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.

They were further remanded in custody to 9 November and advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
The prosecutor, Mr Jabulani Mberesi, said on 8 October, the accused persons spotted the complainants at Mashaka Business Centre in Dulibadzimu. They then teamed up and forced them into their car, a
Toyota Dyna and drove to Makakavhule village before proceeding to Maroyi illegal cross point along the Limpopo River.
On arrival, the court heard that the accused persons then detained the complainants during which they severely assaulted them using sticks, stones and booted feet.
However, one of the complainants managed to escape and went to Beitbridge police station where he reported the matter.

Police then went to the scene and rescued the other two victims and they were taken to Beitbridge district hospital where one of them later died due to injuries sustained during the attack.
The accused persons were later arrested following a tip-off.
