NEW YORK. — Is Serena Williams the greatest female tennis player? Many believe that Williams is the greatest player of her era. Recently, former World No. 1 Andre Agassi has voiced his opinion about the 19-time grand slam champion’s accomplishments and said that he would be even pleased to see the top-ranked female athlete surpass his wife Steffi Graf’s grand slam record.

Williams only trails Graf’s grand slam record by three more. Graf had 22 grand slam titles before she retired in 1999. Williams, on the other hand, has 19 grand slam titles up her sleeves. The American won her 19th grand slam title at the 2015 Australian Open.

According to Agassi, his wife doesn’t really worry much about losing her grand slam record. Agassi said that Graf has done the best that she could until her retirement from the sport in 1999.

“She (Graf) was thrilled with her career, she had no regrets, she did everything she could do and that’s all she ever cared about, but what Serena is doing is remarkable,” Agassi told Reuters TV. “She’s (Williams) arguably the greatest ever, it would be easy to argue that regardless of 22 or not.” — Reuters
