Defence Minister and Senator for Marondera-Wedza constituency, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi has applauded the roll-out of community initiated projects in Chihota, Marondera West constituency saying this promotes community development.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for Chakadini Clinic in Chihota on Friday last week, Dr Sekeramayi said citizens were the ones who shaped the future of the community and the nation at large.

“Development of the community depends on the participation of its citizens through engaging in all community developmental projects initiatives. It is us citizens who shape the future of the community and the nation at large.

“It really doesn’t matter what sphere you work in or your political affiliation, it is our duty to do everything we can to live in better conditions,” said Dr Sekeramayi.

He commended the efforts of people that grew up in Chihota to develop their home area by establishing Chakadini Clinic.

“Of interest is that the funders of the project are our own children from Chihota, who took it upon themselves to develop their home area because they feel that they cannot wait for external donors to bring development for their home area,” he said.

He also said the establishment of rural health centres like Chakadini Clinic would promote a healthy nation through easy access to health care facilities and services.

“The groundbreaking for Chakadini Rural Health Centre is just but the beginning of good work to follow. I believe that because it is happening in our own area of jurisdiction and our home soil.

“We would like to appreciate efforts by the Ward Councillor, Chakadini Old Students Association, together with Marondera Rural District council technical team for playing a pivotal role in establishing a clinic in ward 10,” said Dr Sekeramayi.

He urged all citizens to take part in all developmental projects initiatives and to support Government programmes.

He also called on the Ministry of Health and Child Care to avail staff for upcoming clinics.

“Without the health manpower it will be a wasted effort to establish health centres because the will become white elephants.

“My desire is to see an enhanced access to affordable health centres that improves the standard of living of our citizenry.”

Apart from ward 10, Marondera Rural District Council is working on the construction of rural health centres in other eight wards in partnership with other groups, individuals and companies.
