Scribe up for theft

Court Reporter
A Chinhoyi-based freelance journalist allegedly stole a cellphone and gadgets worth $3 800 from the proprietor of Jockster Investments Pvt Ltd, Engineer Antony Parehwa.

Romeo Kurai Pemba (25) appeared in court on Monday accused of stealing a cellphone, computer and plasma television set after smashing a window at Jockster Investments Pvt (Ltd )offices in Harare recently.

It is alleged that Pemba inserted his Econet line 0772 318 685 in the stolen Samsung Galaxy cellphone.

Pemba, who is also an ex-convict in an armed robbery case, appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe, facing theft and unlawful entry charges. The prosecutor, Mrs Idah Maromo, opposed bail saying the accused was an ex-convict whose accomplices were still at large.

His lawyer, Mr Vincent Mazhetese, argued that his client was a proper candidate for bail.

“The fact that he is an ex-convict cannot be used as a factor,” he said. “The accused bought the phone at Ximex Mall in Harare, but the person who sold him the stolen phone cannot be found.”

Mrs Maromo alleged that sometime between May 12 and 13 this year at 8am, Pemba went to Jockster Investments Pvt Ltd at Union Avenue building in Harare.
