CONCERNED about the alarming level of domestic abuse in Jamaica, particularly against women, singjay Latty J lets her feelings known on “No Abuse”, her latest song.

Latty J, whose real name is Tynese Jackson, hopes the song will encourage women to take a stand against domestic abuse by reporting their cases to the relevant authorities.

“We often hear about women who are in abusive relationships. A lot of them stay in these relationships because they are scared to leave and end up paying the price for remaining with their lives,” she said.

“I hope that my song will inspire women to stand up and realise that they do not have to stay in abusive relationships. You have to protect yourself and your children from abuse.”

“No Abuse” was produced by Mr Vegas for the Tables Turn “rihythm”. It was released by his MV Music label in July.

Domestic violence against women is among Jamaica’s perennial problems.

According to the Victim Support Unit, since 2005, over 20 000 cases of domestic violence have been documented annually by their officers.

The vast majority of cases are females.

“No Abuse” is not the first time Latty J has stood up for women in song.

“Same Pay”, produced by Danny Browne, called for a level playing field with men in terms of wages in the workforce. – Jamaicaobserver.
