Some of the illustrations on show

Visual artist Knowledge Mushohwe, who is The Herald columnist and H-Metro cartoonist, is set to showcase some of his works at the National Art Gallery in Mutare tomorrow.

The illustrations exhibition, which celebrates Zimbabwe’s heroes and prominent personalities will be officially opened by Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Development, Chris Mushohwe.

The exhibition will recognise some of the country’s well-known people from different disciplines.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the artist, who is popularly known as Knowleh, shed more light on this historic exhibition.

“The exhibition recognises the selfless efforts by the heroes who sacrificed their lives to free the country from colonial rule therefore it depicts some of the country’s best known liberation heroes,” he said.

The exhibition is also important because it also recognises the achievements of various iconic Zimbabweans.

“While this exhibition highlights and celebrates the lives and contributions of our war heroes, it also recognises the achievements of some of Zimbabwe’s most illustrious sons and daughters, people that have become national icons or dominated so much in their respective fields that the whole world noticed,” said Knowleh. The showcase will also salute personalities in arts, sport and also philanthropy.

“Peter Ndlovu’s dribbling wizardry and ball control, for example, gave the entire nation reason to believe in the national soccer team that had for many years struggled to win matches, Nick Price won several prestigious global golfing tournaments and at his peak, was rated the best player in the world,” said Knowleh.

“In music, Oliver Mtukudzi is one of the best known African artists attracting a global audience. These prominent people are a part of this exhibition that encompasses other great names in the arts and sport industries,” he said.

Also to be saluted at the showcase are philanthropists such as Amai Dr Grace Mugabe and Jairos Jiri.

“Such names are synonymous with love, care and kindness, values that epitomizes the very nature of the Zimbabwean public.”

Knowleh however emphasised that the above mentioned names are not the only people that deserve national respect.

“This exhibition is only the start and we hope that whenever we as a country celebrate the lives of our liberation heroes, we also recognise the achievements of other distinguished Zimbabweans.”
