A Zimbabwean woman was killed while eight other people were seriously injured when a Tombs Motorways bus overturned between Makhado and Musina towns on Monday morning. The bus was travelling from Johannesburg to Chegutu. Makhado police spokesperson Constable Irene Radzilane said the incident occurred near Ingwe Lodge, 5km outside Makhado town along the N1 highway.

She said the injured were taken to Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital while the body of the deceased was taken to Makhado government mortuary.

“The bus was travelling to Zimbabwe with 65 passengers on board. It overturned when it reached Ingwe Lodge killing one woman who is around 38 years on the spot. Eight other people were seriously injured,” said Cst Radzilane.

“The name of the deceased is unknown since she was not documented. Anyone with information should contact us on 0027 15 519 4300.”

She said further investigations into the matter were underway.

Cst Radzilane also urged motorists and other road users to always abide by the road traffic regulations so as to avoid the unnecessary loss of life.

The latest accident brings to 16 the total number of Zimbabweans who have died in road carnages along the N1 highway this year alone.

The N1 highway is one of the busiest roads in South Africa as it links that country to the rest of Africa and it is the route, which handles a lot of commercial cargo movement.
