Russian actor, Yuri Kolokolnikov, who plays Styr in popular Hollywood series “Game of Thrones”, is expected to grace the fifth edition of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week that takes place from September 24 to 28 at Harare City Library.In the popular American drama series, Styr is the leader of one of the fiercest tribes of the Free Folk, and a lieutenant of Mance Rayder.

The actor will be amongst the “A” list guests that are expected to attend one of the biggest local fashion fetes.

The fashion week had initially been set for end of July but had to be moved to September due to technical issues.

ZFW founder and executive producer Priscilla Chigariro was upbeat that the confirmation from more international celebrities that they would be attending would add glitter to the fashion extravaganza.

“Celebrities and fashion go hand in hand. By bringing celebrities we are hoping to give the much needed exposure for our local designs. You never know, they might be impressed enough to wear them at international platforms,” she said.

While the organisers admitted that the last minute postponement of the show had been a major blow, they said it was beyond their control.

“We faced problems with the venue we wanted to use in the first place. The venue owners cancelled our booking at the last minute.

“The reasons for cancellation were not clear but we could not secure another venue at such a short notice and we had to postpone the show,” said ZFW head of media and corporate communications Chamunorwa Mararike.

He said the had since communicated with the guests and designers who had confirmed they were happy to attend the show on the new set dates.

“The designers have actually saying they were using the extra time to work on their designs,” he said.

This year’s edition of the show is themed on celebrating Africanism and everything to do with African designs, fabrics and the people.
