The zanu-pf parliamentary caucus met at the party headquarters where Masvingo proportional representation member Cde Anna Rungani, was nominated as the Deputy Chief Whip in parliament, taking over from Cde Mandi Chimene, who was appointed Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister.

Outgoing Chief Whip Cde Joram Gumbo, who was appointed Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development during last week’s Cabinet reshuffle, confirmed the development saying his successor would be appointed by the party leadership soon.

“The main business of the day was to choose the Deputy Chief Whip and, honourable Rungani from Masvingo was elected. The Chief whip will be appointed by the President,” he said.

Cde Gumbo said other issues that were discussed include the issue of the availability of inputs to farmers in the forthcoming season, resuscitation of the railway system and construction of roads especially the Beitbridge-Harare and Harare-Chirundu roads.

“Parliamentarians also urged the executive to speed up the crafting of the Constituency Development Bill for it to be law so that the money would be disbursed,” he said

Cde Gumbo said MPs also called on ministers to attend parliamentary sessions and respond to their concerns.

“The MPs called on the Executive to attend parliamentary sittings regularly and respond to their questions. The party leadership also urged parliamentarians to bring more motions to the House so that there is business in the House,” he said.

Cde Gumbo said Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Government was committed to the realignment of laws and with the General Laws Amendment Bill that is before parliament dealing with amendments to over 200 laws.
