Runde Rural District Council management has pledged to take up President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to hit the ground running. Runde RDC chief executive Mr Gorden Moyo said they would emulate President Mnangagwa’s strong work ethic to develop the area.

Speaking recently during the council’s last full meeting for 2017, Mr Moyo took time to congratulate President Mnangagwa for his elevation to the highest office in the land.

He further described President Mnangagwa as a true son of the Midlands province.

“We should emulate President E.D Mnangagwa, whose battle cry has always been that it shall not be business as usual and we must all hit the ground running,” said Mr Moyo.

“And let me say, ladies and gentlemen, it shall also not be business as usual for Runde Rural District Council. We are also going to hit the ground running in line with the national sentiment.”

Mr Moyo said it was important for council officials to take stock of their achievements as outlined in the targets set, to correct mistakes while building on strength.

“Since the beginning of the year, council adopted resolutions meant to address the challenges our communities are facing in the area of health, education, roads infrastructure, environmental management, as well as the general administration of council business,” he said.

Finance committee chairperson Councillor Morgan Msipa said the council’s budget performance was pegged at 81 percent, adding that council could have done better.

“For the year 2017, our total budget was $2 530 895 of which $2 035 083 was collected, which is 81 percent of budget income,” he said. “This is our highest performance ever.

“Our performance could have been better if it was not for stand sales which did not materialise due to delays in EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) approvals and layout plans approvals by relevant ministries.”

Clr Msipa said some layout approvals had been received to make stand sales a reality in 2018.

“For this reason, we expect our 2018 budget to be more than that of 2017,” Clr Msipa said.
