Rugare murder probe complete

Court Reporter
Investigations into the case in which a 10-year-old Rugare girl was raped and strangled to death in 2013 are complete and the suspect, Tawanda Mugove, will now stand trial at the High Court.

Stacy Munjoma was found dead in a maize field near Rugare Community Stadium in Harare on February 20 2013.

Her genitals were swollen, while her thighs were bruised.

Mugove has been in custody since then after he was denied bail by the High Court.

He is today expected to appear before magistrate Mr Milton Serima for indictment.

His trial date has been set for March 18.

It is the State’s case that after the girl’s murder, Mugove allegedly exhibited strange behaviour and moved from his home in Rugare to live along Mukuvisi River.

The prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira alleges that on February 17 at around 5:20pm, Stacy left her aunt’s home in Kambuzuma for Rugare where she was living with her grandparents.

Stacy was escorted from Kambuzuma to the intersection of Kambuzuma and Nyashanu roads by her cousins Shawn and Rufaro Mudzana.

Stacy never reached her destination and was found dead in a maize field near Rugare Community Stadium on February 20. Her genitals were swollen and her thighs had bruises.

A post-mortem established that she had died of traumatic shock due to sexual assault.
