THE Zimbabwe Republic Police will not keep bad apples within its ranks and will dismiss offenders even if they appeal against the decision, Commissioner- General Augustine Chihuri has said. He made the remarks yesterday while welcoming 200 officers who participated at the ninth edition of the Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) Games in Swaziland.

Comm-Gen Chihuri said discipline was the cornerstone of good policing.

“Officers be assured that if you are a bad apple, we will not keep you. Going to the High Court (to appeal) will not help,” he said.

Cops discharged from the ZRP are rushing to the High Court to contest their dismissal.

Last month, Comm-Gen Chihuri warned senior officers against undermining ZRP disciplinary processes saying those caught would be punished accordingly.

He commended officers who participated at the SARPCCO Games for maintaining discipline and flying the country’s flag high.

“You have demonstrated that discipline is the fulcrum of success and hence you are reaping the rewards of hard work and good conduct,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said.

He said the SARPCCO Games offer a platform for interaction and co-operation between member states.

The Games also foster good working relationships and friendship among police in the Sadc region.

“This biennial sporting extravaganza is also guided by enhancing the unifying factor of sport since these Games bring the relevant police organisations closer to each other not only in the sporting field but also essential partners in the fight against crime,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said.

The SARPCCO games were held in Swaziland between July 22 and August 2.

Team Zimbabwe won the games for the fourth successive time.
