Zambian musician and “Amarula” hitmaker Roberto has promised an outstanding act at the International Conference Centre on December 18 at the annual Harare Lockdown gig, organisers have announced. Roberto and South Africa’s Mafikizolo will headline the lockdown gig that has become an annual event. The show promises fireworks, especially considering that the foreign artists will be supported by a cream of local acts that include Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Alexio.

Event organiser Simba Madziva of Simmad Entertainment said the Roberto has promised fireworks at the show and promised his Zimbabwean fans the best.

“He sent a message this week (last week) saying how excited he is to come to Zimbabwe. He is looking forward to the gig and he said his local fans should be braced for a memorable night. He said he is to perform many more hits besides the popular ‘Amarula’ and would want to work with local artistes on his next project. He is seriously looking forward to this show,” said Madziva.

Madziva added that all is now in place for the show and they will begin selling tickets soon. It will be the second time for Mafikizolo to grace the Harare Lockdown gig after an impressive act at the same event last year. It is likely to be a gig to remember as the best local and international acts take turns on stage at the gig that coincides with the beginning of the festive season.

The show is set to be a contest between local and foreign artistes because the international acts will have to put extra effort to make a mark against the good local performances. Mtukudzi has been on a whirlwind international tour and returns home to usher his fans into the festive mood.

Jah Prayzah is regarded as the man-of-the-moment while Alexio has been constantly performing at upmarket events and will be making his second appearance at the Lockdown gig.
