JOHANNESBURG. — Missed flights‚ smooth melodies and late arrivals: what a way to kick off the Second Season of “Coke Studio”! Coke Studio returned to TV screens on Saturday evening with more drama and suspense than your favourite Nollywood movie. The show started off with the news that popular rapper Riky Rick had missed his flight from Mauritius and would be late to the Coke Studio. We nearly wore our fingernails down biting them in suspense at whether he would make it to studio in time to complete the fusion‚ and we’re sure that fellow artistes Sketchy Bongo and Scales were just the same while watching the clock.

Luckily‚ the pair used the time wisely and created some sick beats for Riky to choose from when he finally arrived.

As a young up-and-coming artiste‚ poor Scales was obviously a little in awe of working with legends like Sketchy and Riky‚ and it took a while for him to come out of his shell and show the country his talent.

And‚ man‚ what a talent! The young muso is definitely one to watch.

But the boys’ collaboration wasn’t the only fusion lighting up the “Coke Studio”.

Popular female rapper Fifi Cooper’s collaboration with up-and-coming pop singer Ryki had the audience‚ and us at home‚ seeing flames!

Speaking to TMG Entertainment in the “Coke Studio”‚ Fifi said that she felt like the fusion helped her grow as an artiste.

“It was really great to step outside of my comfort zone and really try to fuse different genres‚ because that is what makes you a great artist‚” she said.

She said that she quickly found common ground with Ryki and it easy to create a “pretty chilled love story“.

“The things that we did together meant that we had to sing. It’s something that my fans might not be used to but I think it’s pretty dope and they (fans) will enjoy it‚” she said.

“Coke Studio” airs on Saturdays‚ etv‚ 6:05pm. — Sowetan.
