Ordinary and Advanced Level Cambridge and Zimsec A-Level results came out this week and this year, it is all about good news as many passed with flying colours. After this week, many now believe that high school is a time in life that is meant to build your education.

To be successful in the future, you need a good education. It seems lately, teenagers have been taking their education for granted.

This is now the time to decide on your career for those who wrote A-Level and some educational analysts said that 2014 results were full of surprises as both Cambridge and Zimsec had high percentage pass rates. ZIMSEC scored 82,6 percent, slightly above the previous year’s while Cambridge recorded above 90 percent.

In 2013 an 81,5 percent pass rate was achieved with Zimsec students.

Some students have already started collecting their results and we promise to have a section next week.

CLS also interviewed some students who wrote their A and O-Level examinations last year who came out with flying colours.

Rutendo Nderere from Arundel Girls High School said she was happy that she passed her O-Level Cambridge exams and was ready for A-Level.

“I now believe that hardwork pays. I am happy that I obtained seven As and four A stars. I am still in shock but I thank God. I am still in shock over my results. I’m over the moon, I never expected this. Imagine I was away from all social media networks of which I thank my parents for doing that because books became my best friend,” she said.

Rutendo said her parents promised to give her a big present.

“My parents have promised to give me a big present, they said it will most probably be a car. I am over the moon,” she said. I am now going to A-Level to study Maths, Physics and Accounting,” she said.

Cole Tinarwo (15) from Midlands Christian College who obtained seven As and six Bs (O-Level Cambridge) said she was planning to go back to the same school for Advanced Level.

“I never expected this but I am satisfied with the results because it is my sweat. I am now focusing on my Advanced Level to do better and would be doing Geography, Accounting and MOB,” he said.

He said his secret to success was prayer and a good study timetable.

“I had my timetable which was very conducive and could revise according to plan. I owe my success to God,” he said.

Kimberly Gutu, daughter to politician Obert Gutu, scooped three A stars Cambridge A-Level. Her father immediately posted the results on social media networks.

“I am excited about my achievement as a girl. It took great determination and perseverance. I was among the best A-Level students at Arundel. I am going to study medicine at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, next month,” she said.

Kimberly played girls soccer at her school as a goalkeeper.

However, it has come to our attention that if you don’t apply your education skills towards your grades, then you are limited to a few of the fun extra-curricular activities in high school or university.

For example, maybe you want to play football to get in good shape, but you won’t make the team if you don’t focus on your grades.

In a normal high school day, never try to worry about any stressors but focus more on books.

Sure you want to meet new friends and lay back on homework at times. But this is one of the biggest problems for teens in high school. If students procrastinate on their homework and are unable to focus on their studies, they will soon fall behind quickly. This will then, limit them to only a few of the fun activities the school has to offer.

As students, what can you do to stop this problem? Even if a student isn’t the smartest person in the school, they can all give their best effort towards their grades. Teachers like to see students trying in class, and want to help them achieve their best. If you are still struggling in the class, many teachers offer tutoring after school.

Another good way to help yourself with your grades is to get involved in class discussions.

If you have questions about a subject, make sure you talk about it with the teacher during class. You also have the opportunity to express your opinion with facts and debates. If you participate in class, then you will find your subject a lot easier, and be able to share your opinion with your friends.
