LONDON — Liverpool are ready to reward Brendan Rodgers with a £60million transfer kitty after he guided the club back into the Champions League. The Reds will play in Europe’s elite club competition next season, following a sustained absence away, and the club’s board want to make sure they stay there.
According to reports, John W Henry has told Rodgers he will get £60million to work with this summer to add more world class talent to his Anfield squad.

Rodgers has shown his nouse for finding a bargain in the transfer window, but the cash will mean he’s able to challenge for truly world class stars at the end of the season.

Liverpool have already drawn up a shortlist of possible targets, with Real Madrid star Karim Benzema and Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer among those being looked at. The Reds are expected to sign at least three new players when the window re-opens, regardless of whether they win the title this term or not.

Managing director Ian Ayre is confident Liverpool will be able to attract their top targets in what promises to be a busy summer for the club.

A move to Anfield has become a far more attractive prospect this season with the Reds clear favourites to win the Premier League and already assured of their place in the Champions League. That marks a huge step up on last term, when they failed to make even the Europa League, but Ayre knows money will need to be spent on the squad this summer if the team is to repeat or better their 2013-14 heroics.

Reports suggest manager Rodgers will be handed a war chest of around £60m to add to his options, made up mainly of the money Liverpool will receive for reaching Europe’s top club competition. —Metro-Sky Sports.
