LONDON. — Harry Redknapp has declared Tottenham will take the English Premier League soccer title if they win against West Ham at Upton Park tonight.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side could be five points behind leaders Leicester by kick-off if the Foxes win last night’s match against West Brom.

But the former Spurs boss reckons the White Hart Lane club have the destiny of the title in their own hands with 11 games to go.

He told Talksport: “I fancy Leicester or Tottenham to win the league. It’s a tough game tomorrow (tonight). Tottenham have got it all on, going to Upton Park under the lights with a tough crowd.

“If Tottenham come through that, they win the league I think. There has been a lot of inconsistency but Tottenham have been consistent. They have been excellent to watch. I think they will win against Arsenal. They were so poor on Sunday.

“West Ham are playing fantastic. They will be getting steamed into Spurs tomorrow for sure. But Tottenham have been great. It will be a really top game I am sure.”

Redknapp added: “If Manchester City don’t win at Liverpool (tonight), you can write them off. It is a game you have got to go and win. They can’t afford any slip-ups — they have got to go on a run now.”

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is facing a major dilemma over whether to axe Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal’s title run-in.

Sanchez has been desperately out of form since returning from a hamstring injury and there is a growing feeling the Arsenal forward needs a rest.

Wenger has been reluctant to take Sanchez out of his line-up but the problem is reaching crisis point after Arsenal’s defeat at Manchester United left their title challenge on the brink of collapse.

Sanchez has insisted that he does not want to be rested and wants to play his way back to form after managing just one goal since returning at the end of January after a seven week lay-off.

Chile star Sanchez, who has struggled this season after not having a summer break because of the Copa America, knows there have been discussions about him being rested but fears it could make the problem worse.

Gunners boss Wenger is likely to make changes for tonight’s must-win clash with Swansea but it remains to be seen whether Sanchez will be taken out of the firing line and his determination to play may make it difficult.

But Sanchez must show improved form for Arsenal to regain some title-winning results as the Premier League crown slips away.

Wenger had his players in on Monday for a light session after the defeat at Old Trafford and Arsenal are desperate for Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla to come back in the next month to help improve their fortunes.

Wenger was very measured in his post-match criticism to the players after the United game and believes they will respond against Swansea even though some of them are showing signs of fatigue ahead of Saturday’s North London derby.

Arsenal are certain to shake up the squad this summer with a new centre half — Per Mertesacker has lost his status as an automatic choice — and a holding midfielder on their wish list. Southampton’s Victor Wanyama has been scouted extensively.

But Arsenal keeper Petr Cech, who would be favourite to get the armband next season with Mikel Arteta retiring and Mertesacker no longer a first choice, admits the defeat at Old Trafford was a major setback.

Cech said: “The defeat was a big disappointment for us and is a step back after last week where we managed to overcome a deficit against Leicester at home.

“This is a step back but we need to keep working. We have two important games coming up this week and if we manage to win both the table might look better again.” — The Mirror.
