A barber, who was facing three counts of raping his 11-year-old neighbour at Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court, is on the run. Lot Nyanguwa, 31, is facing three counts of rape as defined in section 65 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9: 23. He recently appeared before Chinhoyi regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo where he pleaded not guilty to the three counts of rape.

The matter proceeded for trial and on judgment day yesterday, Nyanguwa, who was out of custody, disappeared. Nyanguwa, who was represented by Antonio of Antonio and Associates, arrived at the court, but couldn’t attend the court session for judgment. According to the State’s case, the matter was put on hold and Nyanguwa was declared to be on the run. For absconding court, the State indicated that Nyanguwa will face another criminal offence.

It is the State’s case that on an unknown date in August 2015 in Hurungwe, Nyanguwa shaved the juvenile’s hair around midday before he closed doors of his barber shop and raped her once.
