THE Premier Soccer League will not sanction any friendly matches this weekend as they want to give maximum mileage to the NetOne OneWallet Cup final. It will be a Goliath and David affair in the final where Dynamos take on Triangle United on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium. Despite the final being staged in Harare, the PSL have said they do not want any counter-attractions and this should be a blow for Bulawayo giants Highlanders who were in the process of organising a friendly match.
“The weekend is strictly reserved for the OneWallet Cup final. We will not sanction any friendly matches even if the request is to play on Saturday outside Harare.

“Sponsors deserve maximum mileage through partnering us,” said Kennedy Ndebele, the PSL chief executive officer.
He said the decision was also meant to ensure the turf at some of the facilities improves.

“The other reason why we won’t be sanctioning friendly games is because we want grass at some venues to recover.
“Some venues like Hartsfield and Sakubva are being used by three teams so the break will give it (grass) time to recover.”

DeMbare are favourites to win the US$500 000-sponsored competition having reached the final without conceding a goal.
However, Triangle United will not be pushovers and will be itching for a victory having felt robbed the last time the two teams clashed in a league match that they lost 1-2 at Gibbo. Under-fire Triangle United coach Biggie Zuze came guns blazing at Dynamos, accusing the Glamour Boys of getting help from match officials to win their matches.

His DeMbare counterpart Callisto Pasuwa scoffed at the accusation and said it was a case of sour grapes from Triangle United.
That verbal tirade between the two gaffers set the tone for an exciting Cup final.
