THE Premier Soccer League have finally embraced reason by making a U-turn with all the 16 clubs endorsing the ZIFA Council resolution to have four teams promoted from Division One and two relegated into the lower division. The clubs also agreed to withdraw their case which has been pending before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. The meeting was attended by all 16 clubs. A rebellion which had been led by Triangle and Chicken Inn to continue their fight against ZIFA was crushed by the mighty of the clubs with the heavyweights — Dynamos, Highlanders, CAPS United and FC Platinum — leading the way.

In a press release yesterday, PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said a deal had been struck among the clubs. “To formally withdraw the case CAS20161014873 Premier Soccer League and All vs Zimbabwe Football Association from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“Adopt the ZIFA Assembly resolution of demoting two clubs and promoting four clubs at the end of the 2016 season.

“The Governors also resolved to engage ZIFA through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to find an amicable solution to the interference by ZIFA in the administration and operations of the PSL,” read the statement

It was a huge blow to Triangle chairman, Lovemore Matikinyidze, who has been fronting a confrontation with ZIFA.

“Football has been the winner at the end of the day. I am very happy about the decision and I am excited that some people have seen some light at the end of the day,” said Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa.

“We have also agreed to withdraw our case from CAS. It was going to be sheer waste of money and foreign currency to take the case to CAS when the country is struggling with foreign currency.

“It was also going to drag our season because we were going to get results in October or September.”
