PSL annual meeting on tomorrow Kenny Ndebele

Sports Reporters
THE Premier Soccer League will hold its annual meeting tomorrow in Harare with two of their sponsors, who were part of their portfolio, yet to confirm whether they will part of the bandwagon this year. The main sponsors, Delta Corporation, have already confirmed their sponsorship deal for this season through their brands Castle and Chibuku for the League and Cup.

But the league is yet to confirm whether Mbada Diamonds will bankroll the Mbada Diamonds Cup and NetOne will sponsor the OneWallet Cup.

What is certain is that the Mbada Diamonds Cup won’t be the season-opening tournament as had been arranged last year.

However, the PSL leadership are keeping their options open that the tournament could be held during the course of the year.

“We will allow them (Mbada Diamonds) to breathe and deal with other issues and we will engage them later,” PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele told The Herald.

“At the meeting we will see which sponsors are in and which ones are not going to be part of us this year.

“Castle Lager have confirmed their sponsorship, together with the Chibuku Trophy.

“We would be confirming the sponsorship for the Top Eight tournament.

“It was a one-year contract with NetOne, so we will be announcing full details pertaining to that.”

The PSL boss, hailed as probably the best football administrator in the country today, said the governors will review the 2014 season looking at the competitions, marketing and financial statements.

“We will also review our standing orders and fines. We will also look at the issue of stadiums. We will probably amend the rules and regulations.

“We will also come up with the calendar for the season,” he said.

Ndebele said they were likely to have a two-week break midway in the season.

“When we do our calendar, we will take into consideration the national team commitments and we would want a two-week break and all the matches should be done by 30th December,” Ndebele said.

The administrator added that the meeting will also confirm the date for the start of the 2015 Castle Lager Premiership.
