Zanu-PF Mashonaland East Province has recommended to the revolutionary party’s Politburo that Marondera Central legislator and former provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde be expelled from the party following complaints from his constituency. The call to fire Kaukonde follows a similar request by zanu-pf Mashonaland Central province to have Mbire legislator Cde David Butau expelled from the party on allegations of belonging to the Dr Joice Mujuru-led cabal accused of plotting to topple President Mugabe.

Mashonaland East acting provincial chairperson Cde Aeneas Chigwedere confirmed the development saying the decision now rested with the Politburo.

“His constituency wrote to us complaining that he has not been seen in the constituency.

“It was on that basis that he was not visible in the constituency that they wanted him recalled. We then wrote to the Politburo saying this was what we received from Kaukonde’s constituency,” said Cde Chigwedere.

Cde Chigwedere said they will meet today as the provincial coordinating committee and may recommend the expulsion of more people linked to the Mujuru cabal.

“We are meeting as PCC tomorrow. I am not sure if those things will arise. If they do, we will definitely discuss it. We were not given an instruction by head office to do that but we will use our discretion as a province,” said Cde Chigwedere.

Mashonaland Central provincial chairman Cde Dickson Mafios said the provincial coordinating committee resolved to recommend Cde Butau’s expulsion after meeting on Saturday.

“Cde Butau was accused by the President and First Secretary of the Party, Cde Mugabe of buying vehicles for Jabulani Sibanda who has since been expelled from the party. He has also bought motor bikes that are being used in his constituency to promote their zanu-People First agenda.

“He was also part of the legislators linked to American spy Eric Little that was working to effect regime change. It is because of this that we have recommended that he be expelled from the party,” Cde Mafios said.

Harare province last week also recommended the expulsion of Epworth representative Cde Amos Midzi and 25 others officials that were given votes of no confidence last year for belonging to the Dr Mujuru cabal.

Dr Mujuru has since been expelled from zanu-pf together with former secretary for Administration Mr Didymus Mutasa and former secretary for Information and Publicity Mr Rugare Gumbo.
