Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Province has reinstated Zvimba West legislator Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi as the provincial chairperson ahead of the Special Congress.

He takes over from Central Committee member Cde Ephraim Chengeta who has been leading the province since 2016.

The decision to reinstate Cde Ziyambi among other party leaders follows a resolution by the Central Committee lifting suspensions and expulsions made after the 2014 Congress.

Such individuals are to assume their positions.

Outgoing chairman Cde Chengeta, who was magnanimous in accepting the verdict, announced the changes at a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi at the weekend.

“Following a resolution passed by Central Committee that members suspended or expelled should revert to their positions, as the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) we have reinstated all those who had been affected,” he said.

“Cde Ziyambi becomes the new provincial chairperson with Cde Dexter Nduna assuming his position as the province’s treasurer, Cde Simon Solomon (Provincial Political Commissar) and Cde Vengai Musengi is now the provincial youth chairman.”

Cde Chengeta applauded the province for the overwhelming support they gave him during his stint at the helm of the province.

“I thank you all for the support you gave us with the outgoing leadership. Above all let’s continue mobilising people to vote ahead of the harmonised elections next year,” he said.

The province is targeting to register at least 460 000 voters

Cde Ziyambi was congratulated for being appointed Justice, Legal and Parliamentary affairs Minister before he addressed the PCC where he discouraged hate speech and preached unity among party members.

Provincial members also trooped to congratulate Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa who has been appointed special advisor to the President.

“Firstly l want to acknowledge the role played by Cde Chengeta, however we should desist from pointing finger at each other. This applies even on social media where such practices should cease forthwith as we forge ahead in the spirit of unity and forgiveness,” he said.

Cde Ziyambi warned social media hate mongers that they will be served with prohibition orders for defying instructions. He thanked war veterans and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for Operation Restore Legacy which realigned the party and country to its founding ideals. The PCC endorsed earlier resolutions by the PEC to adopt resolutions of the Central Committee reinstating suspended and expelled members.

It also endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2018 Harmonised Elections. Cde Ziyambi said people in the province and the country should continue to cherish the contribution of former president Cde Robert Mugabe towards nationhood.
