Property developer in the dock

PROPERTY developer Keverth Raydon Sharpe yesterday appeared in court accused of sending a threatening message to his nemesis over his late father’s mine in Shamva.

Sharpe pleaded not guilty to charges of contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act, which prohibits sending messages that cause annoyance.

Prosecutor Ms Gayton Vhiriri, alleged that on July 27 this year around 1pm, Sharpe sent a message to Douglas Joseph Walsh.

The message read; “If you don’t get this case stopped, I will fix you. And there will be your blood on the streets and I have connections and high-powered people to fix you.”

In his defence, Sharpe said he doesn’t know the complainant well enough.

“My knowledge of the complainant is very vague. I met him two or three times because his ex-wife was a friend to my wife,” he said.

“There was a case at the CID Serious Frauds involving a mine in Shamva. The mine was owned by my late father. At the time of his death he gave his properties to his girlfriend in South Africa.

“On the day in question I called the complainant, but he did not pick up the phone. I then used my wife’s phone.”

Sharpe added that he quizzed the complainant about the police report.

“The complainant said he never placed any police report, but added that he would check with his business partner Mark Dorse.

“I asked for a meeting to discuss the issue because I was representing my business partner Alexandra Sherment who has 100 percent shares in Fellow Gold Investment Mine.

“The complainant asked if I was threatening him, but later promised to call me back for the meeting. I never communicated with him since that conversation.”

Trial continues tomorrow and Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe presided over the case.
