LOCAL professional golfers found the tough going again at the Eye of Africa PGA championship qualifier at the Glenvista Country Club in South Africa yesterday.

Brian Gondo, Mohammad Rauf Mandhu, Dean Shcoultz and Robson Saurombe failed to qualify for the event which begins tomorrow.

Gondo, of Bulawayo Golf Club, finished in 17th place in a qualifier where the 15 top players made it to the pre-qualifiers.

Mandhu had a difficult day in office as he carded a five-over par while Schoutz was a stroke behind. Saurombe finished on seven-over-par.

The four will not join Scott Vincent, Ryan Cairns, Greg Bentley and Mark Williams who were invited for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Danielle Bekker won the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Association Matabeleland Strokeplay at Bulawayo Golf Club at the weekend.

Bekker, who is improving with each outing, won the championship division on 138 after she scored 74 and 76 in the two-day event.

Playing off six handicap, the Chapman member got the better of several seasoned campaigners like Batsirai Tilowakuti who finished second.

Tilowakuti had scores of 75 and 78, P Buckle was third, Yolanda Mubaiwa fourth and Loice Chingono completed the top five.

The A Division was won by Loveness Chandavengerwa on 144 while Polly Crewe was second.

Ionka Benker finished third and Carrey Smith fourth.
