Prime Minister’s question time irrelevant, say analysts

“They (Parliament) should not have introduced the question time without an opposition or they should give members from the other two parties (Zanu-PF and MDC) to ask more questions to prevent incidents like that (stage managing). It does not make sense for MDC-T MPs to be asking questions to the Prime Minister,” he said.

Prof Madhuku said Parliament was meant for vibrant questions.
“The purpose of parliament is to promote genuine democracy and should not be like a drama group where people are acting,” he said.
Another UZ lecturer, Dr Charity Manyeruke, slammed the MDC-T’s actions.

“As a nation we do not require that, we need people who are sincere in what they do. Parliament should discuss the issues that benefit ordinary people and not to use its structures to build images of individuals.

“We want leadership that discuss issues that benefit the country because we have so many things that need attention, it does not help us to be stage managing events because we will not go anywhere with that,” she said.

Eyebrows were raised when the PM produced minutes allegedly from a police district meeting following a question by the party’s Kwekwe Central representative Blessing Chebundo on his sentiment on remarks by security officials that they would not allow anyone without liberation war credentials to become President.

Zanu-PF Mbire representative, Cde Paul Mazikana, then asked PM Tsvangirai whether he had prophesied that he would be asked that particular question.
The question time affords backbenchers an opportunity to ask the Prime Minister questions on various Government programmes.
