President Mugabe yesterday hailed the security forces for maintaining peace, law and order in the country a development which saw their services required in both regional and international peace support operations.

Addressing thousands of people gathered at the national shrine to mark the Heroes’ Day, President Mugabe said the security forces continued to raise the country’s flag high.

“When all is said and done, what is important is, in our circumstances, we have peace, law and order. And we praise our security forces for that,” said President Mugabe.

“We praise them for the calm there has been, the peace there has been.”

He said it was important to praise the security forces also for fulfilling international obligations by subscribing members to both regional and international peace support operations.

The security forces will today celebrate the Defence Forces Day with a cocktail of activities throughout the country, with the main celebrations taking place at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

The Commander-in-chief of the Defence Forces President Mugabe will give a key note address.
