Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo

President Mugabe has appointed a 15-member board of trustees for the Development Trust of Zimbabwe to be chaired by the Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo.The President is the patron of the Trust.

DTZ is a national independent Trust whose main thrust is to focus on development at national level.

Cde Khaya Moyo is deputised by Cde Didymus Mutasa, who is the Zanu-PF secretary for administration.

Other board members are Cdes Francis Nhema, Sydney Sekeramayi, Sithembiso Nyoni, Walter Chidhakwa, Dzikamai Mavhaire, Tongai Muzenda, Herbert Nkala, Nicholas Ncube, Sobusa Gula Ndebele, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, Mrs Thandiwe Nkomo Ibrahim, Dr Charles Utete and Ms Busi Bango.

In a statement yesterday, Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said the appointments were effective from August 1. “The President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe have appointed the following persons as trustees of the Development Trust of Zimbabwe with effect from August 1 2014,” Cde Gumbo said.

The aim of the Trust is to ensure that there is a project under way in every province.

The Trust acquired the Nuanetsi Ranch in Mwenezi as its first project and it seeks to create a general awareness, understanding and appreciation among Zimbabweans of the potential and benefits in the field of agriculture, commerce and industry.

According to the DTZ Trust Deed, some of its objectives are to provide bursaries, donations, gifts, grants, loans, prizes and scholarships to any beneficiary in the furtherance of the objects of the Trust and to construct houses and buildings or works of every description on any land of the Trust.

The Trustees have powers to exchange property for other property of a different nature and for such considerations and on such conditions as they may consider advisable.

The deed also states that the Trustees are empowered to solicit and accept gifts and bequests of money and to raise money by way of donations, loans and in any other way deemed expedient by the Trust.

All the business of the Trust is conducted by way of resolutions passed by a simple majority and in the event of there being a tie in votes cast, the chairman of the meeting shall have a second or casting vote.

DTZ is not a profit making organisation, but is for general economic and social development, welfare, educational training and rehabilitation purposes for beneficiaries and as such it shall not normally be liable for income tax and other similar imposts and duties.
