ALL is set for this year’s edition of Miss Harare Junior beauty pageant. The prestigious show is running under the theme “Beauty with a Purpose” and will see a bevy of at least 25 teenage beauties vying for the coveted crown. The girls will be drawn from different schools across Harare. Last year’s winner, Miss Harare Junior Yolanda Chimbarami, said the auditions are still ongoing but all is set for the event and urged young girls to come to the auditions.

Yolanda, who is part of the organizing team, also said the judges have confirmed their commitment. “Let us support the cause of the girl child. We have the talent in Zimbabwe, but lack of support has been the major drawback. So far we are working on the prizes and the venue for the finals but promise that this year is bigger and better,” she said.

Yolanda said the pageant will serve a purpose in promoting the girls’ talent in modelling.

“The aim of the pageant is to give the young models an understanding of the modelling industry, as well as the opportunity to be exposed to different pageants. If such types of events are well supported and funded, we will able to groom models that can excel at the global stage and help to put our nation on the world map in terms of modelling,” she said.

According to Yolanda, open auditions are being held in the capital and from these fora the organisers will come up with the final 25 models from Harare. Apart from the modelling extravaganza, there will be entertainment from local artistes.

Miss Harare Junior pageant is an annual event which is the brainchild of the Harare Junior City Council that seeks to give a platform to teenagers to show that they can do more than just books. The pageant is open to girls between the ages of 15 and 20 from all schools and colleges in the capital city.
