Four popular local female musicians are next month set to release a single which promises to be an artistically explosive collaboration.
The quartet of Tariro neGitare, Hope Masike, Kudzai Sevenzo and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana confirmed that they are currently in studio recording their Afro-soul project.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, one of the musicians Tariro neGitare said they have decided to follow what their male counterparts are doing thus coming up with a collective project as women.

“We are just trying to come up with a concert that is set to be taken around the country. We have seen our male counterparts doing it so as women we just decided to prove to the whole world that we are as good as them,” she said.

Tariro neGitare has performed at various festivals both locally and internationally. In June, she performed at Les Acousti’Coeur Festival and at Africa’s biggest hip-hop festival FESTA2H in Senegal sharing the stage with artistes from Belgium, Brazil, Gambia, Mauritania, Senegal, Spain, Morocco, United States, Denmark, Switzerland and Canada. She has also collaborated with German bands Favo and Jamaram and toured Germany this year with the latter. Her debut 10 track self titled album is currently riding high with songs such as Uripi, Ndinokuda Iwe, Unofona Back and Ndisiye Ndakadaro lamenting the ill-fortunes in love while Wild Fire, D-Sharp, African Girl are social commentaries.

Hope Masike said it was a good opportunity for the ladies to show their talent in a collective project.
“We are happy to be doing the project together as female musicians. It is an opportunity for us to work together and show our different fans what we are made of. We hope the collaboration will go a long way in opening new avenues for all of us,” said Masike.

Masike is currently on a an international tour. She has toured various parts of the world over the past couple of years with her unique mbira tunes and collaborated with international groups.

The award-winning musician has proved her mettle as a mbira princess and has been doing well locally through various shows. She has shown potential to rise to another level.

Although Sevenzo and Katomeni-Mbofana could not be reached for comment yesterday they have shown excitement in the project through various social media comments about the quartet over the past few days.
