Thrills, excitement and funfair characterised Makomo music gala that was held at Hwange Stadium last Friday. The stadium was packed as thousands were eager to see top entertainers like Alick Macheso, Winky D, Peter Moyo, the Charambas and Leonard Zhakata performing.

As early as 6 pm, people were trickling in and some had come from as far as Victoria Falls and Bulawayo for the event. Musicians made sure they left merrymakers satisfied with top class performances. Moyo took to the stage early and left fans asking for more. Overwhelmed by the support, his dancers leapt from the stage and danced off the stage much to the delight of the fans. Songs that include “Naye” and “Mushonga Mukuru” stole the hearts of many music lovers. He took the lead guitar, performing part of “Samanyemba” sending the crowd into a frenzy. After Moyo, the Charambas took to the stage and performed their old and new songs.

Their new albums have been doing well and the reception of new songs was encouraging. Their band was on top of its game as it did well with good choreography. After the Charambas, Winky D went on stage. Thousands overwhelmed security details and they pushed towards the stage to get closer to the performer.

The musician left fans convinced he is the king of dancehall. Showers forced the organisers to stop the show for some minutes. Macheso came on stage, and his performance left fans in awe. He belted most of his hit songs that entertained revellers. Zhakata was the last musician to perform and he managed to reunite with his fans after 10 years.

“I last performed in Hwange 10 years ago and it is indeed an emotional re-union with my fans,” he said.

Excited fans sang along to hits “Mugove” and “Madam Boss”. Eusebia Rayire of Eumo Promotions, which organised the show, was grateful to the community for their support to the event. For years Makomo event has attracted thousands of music lovers as well as uniting fans with their favourite musicians who rarely perform in Hwange.

“I want also to thank Makomo Mining Resources for their support as they are giving back to Hwange community. The artistes have shown great commitment to this event,” Makomo said.
