Pomp and fanfare characterised the launch of Nicholas Zakaria’s album on Thursday at Dandaro Inn. Musicians, promoters and fans came from across the music divide to witness the unveiling of his 26th album titled “Rumbidzo”.

National Arts Council officials Elvas Mari (guest of honour), Nicholas Moyo and Cathrine Mthombeni attended the event.

Musicians who graced the event were Alick Macheso, Soul Jah Love, Suluman “Sulu” Chimbetu, Roki, Energy Mutodi, Romeo Gasa, Leonard Zhakata, Howard Pinjisi and Gift Katulika, who is popularly known as Shiga Shiga.

Promoters Esau Mupfumi, Partson Chimbodza and Josh Hozheri also graced the event.

Youths from Prophet Walter Magaya’s PHD also graced the event.

Macheso was all over the show with his attention-seeking gestures that left a lot to be desired.

When the director of ceremonies called promoters to bid, Chimbodza offered US$100 and Hozheri added US$2 to make it US$102.

Mupfumi’s offer of US$2 000 was the winner, ahead of Mutodi, who had offered US$1 100.

“I will deposit the money and he must go to the bank tomorrow to get the money,” said Mupfumi.

Fans were mesmerised by Zakaria and Macheso, who went on stage for the song “Mabvi Nemagokora,” prompting other artistes to join them on stage.

Soul Jah Love became the centre of attraction with his free-style that left many convinced that he is the dancehall musician of the moment.

Zakaria, who was in the company of his wife, thanked promoters and fellow artistes for their commitment to support him.
