President Mnangagwa’s administration has received the full backing of sadc following his successful tour of the region, apprising his counterparts of the peaceful and smooth transition that took place in the country last year.

This was revealed by Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo when he updated journalists on the discussions of the 316th ordinary session of Politburo that met at the party headquarters yesterday.

Said Cde Khaya Moyo: “His Excellency, the President, Cde E.D Mnangagwa, in line with the Foreign Affairs 100-day programme of action, successfully completed a significant regional tour to brief his elders and counterparts on the smooth and peaceful transition which took place in Zimbabwe.

“In this regard, regional member states pledged unflinching support to the new administration. The Politburo noted the report with great satisfaction. The Politburo also received updates from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Moyo (Retired), who reported on His Excellency’s successful visit to Davos, where Zimbabwe’s message of re-engagement was affectionately received, putting Zimbabwe as a country of the global moment and open for business.”

Lt-Gen Moyo also took the opportunity to update Politburo members on President Mnangagwa’s inaugural meeting at the AU, he said.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed the Politburo on the inaugural attendance of His Excellency, the President, Cde E.D Mnangagwa, to the 30th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly held in Addis Abba recently, whose theme was: ‘Winning the fight against corruption. A sustainable path to Africa’s transformation.’ The President received thunderous applause throughout the briefings at the AU summit and the Politburo noted that we as a country are indeed on the right path to achieve our set goals of economic emancipation,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

According to the ruling party’s spokesperson, the national political commissar, Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje (Retired), also presented a report covering voter registration and the general state of the party.

Before the meeting, President Mnangagwa had a brief engagement with the national leadership of the Youth League, who briefed him on the recently launched #EDHasMyVote campaign.

The Youth League leadership, led by its secretary, Cde Pupurai Togarepi, his deputy Cde Lewis Matutu and secretary for Administration Cde Tendai Chirau, showed the President a branded Toyota Hilux, with the President’s portrait and social media logos such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, urging people to vote for him.

Cde Togarepi said the youth campaign was running in all the 10 provinces ahead of general elections to be held this year.
