Police yesterday released the names of the five people who perished in a road accident along the Harare-Nyamapanda road on Friday.

Six people died in the crash but one is yet to be identified.

Four are from the same family.

The accident happened when a Toyota Hilux they were travelling in burst a front tyre and veered off the road at the 23km peg near Umwinsidale Service Station in Glen Lorne.

The five have been identified as Douglas Matanhire (29), Bruce Matanhire (31), Stella Matanhire (28), Jane Matanhire (30) and Marjory Katsande (70) all from Tafara.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the sixth victim had not yet been identified.

“The ZRP would like to inform the nation that the names of the five victims who died in a road traffic accident at the 23km peg along Harare-Nyamapanda Road have been identified.

“One male adult who died on admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital is yet to be identified,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi urged members of the public missing any of their relative to contact ZRP Traffic Section and assist with the identification of the male adult.

The 17 passengers who were in the vehicle were on their way to Mutoko to attend a funeral.

Five people died on the spot while one died on admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

The other 11 members including the driver were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where their conditions were reported to be stable.

Kelvin Mutsa (20) was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
