POLICE in Nyamapanda on Monday recovered close to 600kg of dagga worth more than $58 000 from a South African- registered DAF truck, leading to the arrest of two people.

In a statement yesterday, ZRP national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the seizure of the contraband.

“Police officers and Zimra officials were carrying out routine checks when a sniffer dog picked up a scent from a South African-registered DAF truck.

“A search was conducted and 21 bags of dagga weighing 581kg were recovered stashed in the vehicle trailer.

“The dagga has a street value of $58 100,” she said, without specifying were the truck was headed.

News has this undesirable characteristic of revealing attractive information even about bad things. Take note of how lucrative a kg of the undesirable product is – more than $90 a kg????? I just wish readers know about the story only and not the business opportunity. At times I wonder if just telling us they were caught with so many kg of the drug is not informing enough. Not sure too who gives the authorities and media pricing intelligence!!!

The AU is proposing an evidence based harm reduction approach to substance abuse via healthcare, education and human rights together with the rest of the AU. Wake up people, the war on drug is a dismal failure & waste of police and judicial time better allocated to real crimes with victims (rape, robbery, murder, theft..).
