ABOUT 300 more boxes of Broncleer were found concealed in the consignment of a South African registered truck that was intercepted by police in Harare on Tuesday.

Police sources close to the investigations said the boxes were discovered after a thorough search was conducted when the truck was impounded.

The case is being handled by detectives from CID drugs section based at Harare Central Police Station.

“Initially, only 181 by 50 boxes of the drug were discovered but after thorough searches were done a further 339 boxes by 50 were found concealed between the truck’s other load,” said the source.

He added: “The driver of the truck alleges that an unidentified person made him believe that the boxes contained soap and he loaded them in Johannesburg.”

It is not clear how the consignment passed through Beitbridge Border Post undetected. The sources said the truck was loaded with steel construction pipes and refrigerators destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The owner of the consignment is still not known. The driver is assisting police with investigations. The consignment is valued at $62 400.

Police arrested the driver and impounded the truck on Tuesday following a tip off.
