LONDON. — Petr Cech’s patience finally snapped on Tuesday night as he declared he will leave Chelsea in the summer rather than spend another season as understudy to Thibaut Courtois.

The 32-year-old Czech Republic star has lost his place to brilliant young Belgian Courtois this season, starting only four Premier League matches and finding himself mainly used in cup games.

Now the Chelsea legend, who has won multiple honours in 12 years with the club, has stated for the first time that the situation cannot go on indefinitely.

“I don’t know what the club’s idea will be,” he said.

“It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo.

“But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this.”

Cech, currently preparing to face Latvia in a Euro 2016 qualifier in Prague on Saturday, joined Chelsea in 2004 and has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League and three League Cups, the last of which was this month when he was in goal for the 2-0 defeat of Tottenham at Wembley.

But in virtually all the other key games of this season, Mourinho has picked Courtois. — The Daily Express.
