Sungura musician, Peter Moyo believes his new album “Mabasa Amwari” that will be launched at 7 Arts Theatre next week will take his music career to another level. The musician, who is confident with the new product, said they have done enough ground work.

“Sometimes you don’t blow your own trumpet but we are confident that it will take us somewhere,” he said. Music critics slammed him when he released his debut album “Mushonga Mukuru” saying he needed improvement on his voice projection. Moyo, a former footballer by profession, said he has worked tirelessly to improve on his voice and performance.

“When I started live performances I was not even aware what a key is and it was difficult but now I can play a guitar. There are a lot of things I have worked on voice included,” he said. Tracks on the album include “Samasimba”, “Mavanga”, “Rudo Pasina”, “Mhosva Dzemudzinza”, “Domestic Violence” and a bonus track which features Botswana dance sensation Slizer titled “Pasina Mari”.

“On the first one, I had poor vocal techniques but now I am better. “I have also managed to do backing vocals for this project, something I did not do on the first album,” he said. The Young Igwe promises his fans to watch out for something new since he brought in his own flair to the project.

“I don’t want to sound like my father, so though it will sound similar to his work, it has my own feel too,” he said. The cheerful musician added that each song on the album has a different theme, for instance “Samasimba” where he will be asking God for strength to survive in hard times.

“In my music career I have come across people who pretend to like me and I face a lot of hardships. On the song “Samasimba” I am asking God to give me strength to overcome such obstacles,” he said. He is sampling his new songs at shows.

Tomorrow he will be sharing the stage with Leonard Zhakata and Tryson Chimbetu at Oddsey Hotel in Kadoma. On Sunday the musician will be sharing stage with Oliver Mtukudzi at Pakare Paye in Norton.
