Sungura musician Peter Moyo is slowly getting it right as his album “Mopao Mokonzi” continues to steadily penetrate the market. With no musical background the musician took over the reins at Utakataka following the death of his father Tongai Moyo, and over the years he has been trying to make impression.

His other albums “Mushonga Mukuru” and “Mabasa aMwari” made little impact on the local market. The musician in a recent interview conceded that it was not an easy journey until the coming of the new album.

“Some people have condemned me with others saying all sorts of words, but I am trying to make my own name as Peter,” he said.
He said there is no way he can be Tongai as they are two different people.

“Before the release of the album it was very difficult to fend our families but now people are having more confidence in me and the band and they are coming to our shows,” he said.

Though his group is considered one of the best performing outfits in the country they were failing to come up with a good studio project.
“This recent album needs good videos and I will not be rushing to have a DVD. Of course we are already working on them,” he said.

Tonight he makes a date with fans in Westlea when he performs at Club Veritas.

“It has been a long time since we performed at Veritas and we are going there for a performance,” he said.

Club Veritas has become favourite hunting grounds for several musicians.

“The good part is that club has managed to create favourite conditions for music fans there. Their patrons are loyal and they support local talent,” said Moyo.
