THE Financial Services Soccer League Cup will this year have a sponsor after Paynet, a financial institution, agreed to bankroll the two-day tournament set for Barclays Sports Club on November 14.

Last year the tournament only included the local banks such as defending champions ZB Bank, FBC, CBZ, CABS, and Standard Chartered Bank.

However, it has been merged with the insurance companies to come up with the Financial Services Soccer League.

This means the likes of Old Mutual, First Mutual Life, Nicoz Diamond and Cimas Medical have come on board to form the 16-team competition whose launch is set for next Friday at Barclays Sports Club. The tournament format, rules and regulations, as well as the draw, will be unveiled. Paynet marketing and communications manager, Patience Mapolisa, said they were looking forward to a good tournament this year.

“We at Paynet are very happy for this opportunity to partner the Financial Services Soccer League.

“Having been partners in business with banks and insurance companies for years now, and also having enjoyed a very good working relationship, this recent partnership in a soccer tournament, is just one of many instances where our relationship of mutual trust and cooperation has enabled us to achieve something that is praiseworthy.

“We look forward to the success of this year’s tournament,” said Mapolisa.

League chairman, Thomas Nyadundu, said the merger of the two leagues has brought in some competition, thanking Paynet for their partnership with the league.
