SOME parents have threatened to withdraw their children from Trelawney Primary School in Zvimba District next term after a Satanism scare. The parents and pupils are fighting with the school authorities over a teacher, who is being accused of initiating pupils into Satanism.

Government and traditional leaders have already indicated that they wanted to conduct a cleansing ceremony at the school’s premises to “exorcise” supposed evil spirits. Some parents are against the move saying the teacher must be expelled from the school instead.

“The cleansing ceremony will not change the situation here, even if our children are cleansed the teacher will continue with her evil intentions. There is no repentance or remorse on the part of the teacher,” said a parent who preferred anonymity. Our children will remain at risk, if she remains at the school. I will not let my child attend that school again.”

Ward 34 Councillor, Mrs Zandile Maseko said the cleansing ceremony was now in doubt as some of the people involved in organising it were developing cold feet.

“There are indications that some of the people, who wanted to conduct the cleansing ceremony are now afraid of proceeding with it. Something needs to be done urgently. These are spiritual things,” she said.

Another parent Andrew Muyesa said the best way to handle the issue was to remove the teacher from the school.

“Everyone is now afraid of what is happening at the school, so the best thing is to remove this teacher from the school, otherwise it will be difficult for Trelawney Primary School to open next term,” he said.
