Paedophile caged

A 20-year-old man from Chitungwiza will spend nine months in prison after he was convicted of sleeping with a Grade Seven pupil. Kudakwashe Kamutaundi of Zengeza 4 denied charges of sleeping with a minor when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.

He was convicted after prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved a case against him.

Mr Murendo sentenced him to 12 months in prison, but conditionally set aside three months for five years.

In sentencing him, Mr Murendo said Kamutaundi’s moral blameworthiness was very high.

“You should be ashamed of yourself for sleeping with a Grade Seven pupil. Instead of treating her as your young sister, you decided to take her for a wife,” said Mr Murendo.

Circumstances were that on August 6 this year, Kamutaundi proposed love to the minor and she agreed.

Two weeks later Kamutaundi went to the minor’s house where he was accommodated by the minor’s friend in her parents’ room. The court heard that the minor’s friend went away leaving the pair inside.

This was the time he asked to be intimate with her and she agreed.

However, Kamutaundi was caught red-handed and the matter was reported by the girl’s parents, leading to his arrest.
